Happy Labor Day! Take the day to relax and unwind. Talk to your family and remind them that you exist. Grab a beer, buy a hammock and find someplace green and sunny. Do all of these things…but don’t forget your smartphone. Here are five apps that will help you relax today.
Remember how we told you to grab a beer? We meant it. Seriously. Go grab a beer right now. Then go ahead and download Rocksauce Studios’ Brewski Me app, where you can log what beers you’re drinking and discover all kind of new brews. It may be your day off, but a visit to your local grocery store may in the near future once you realize that all of your friends are drinking something you’ve never heard about.
It may seem weird to celebrate a day of rest for America’s workers with a game that tasks you with building railroads at the turn of the 20th century, but few games are as hypnotic and relaxing as Ticket to Ride. A gorgeous recreation of the best selling board game of the same name, this slow-paced, challenging (but not too challenging) experience feels like it was made to be played poolside while your kids splash around in the shallow end.
You’re going to need some tunes if you want to chill out, but do you really want to risk the randomness of Pandora of your special Monday off? Do you really want to dig through your vast Spotify library when you’re supposed to be not working? This is where you can turn to Songza, which has countless preset playlists sectioned off by situation and mood. Just find the category that responds to your method of relaxation and let it do the work for you.
When you’re lying in your hammock and enjoying the smell of your backyard’s fresh grass and the suntan lotion on your shoulders (the smell of AMERICA!), you’ll feel the overwhelming urge to catch up on your reading. While that novel sitting on your nightstand won’t read itself, take the day to explore a more fanciful literary world: comic books! The ComiXology app offers great deals on digital downloads, meaning that you can find yourself reading the adventures of Batman and/or The Avengers in mere moments.
You have the whole day to waste…why use quick photography apps like Instagram when you can break out something that requires a bit more finesse? SpacePaint takes time to perfect (but you’ve got plenty of time!), but the results are absolutely stunning. Take pictures of your family, crack open that beer, pop a squat on your hammock and spend the next few hours making them look as gorgeous/horrifying as you see fit!
