Rocksauce Studios wants to go to SXSW! More importantly, we want to go to SXSW and share some of our secrets with you with an amazing panel! Our proposed panel, “Essential Lessons for the Appreneur,” will only become a reality if it gets enough votes. That’s where you come in. Head on over to our page on the SXSW PanelPicker, check out our proposed panel and give us your vote! It’ll only take you a few minutes and you’ll be rewarded with all of our dirty, amazing secrets. Here’s our official description:
“Delving into the waters of the app pool can quickly lead to getting in over your head. When faced with hundreds of choices in how to turn your app idea into a viable product to place on the market, appreneurs have to make the right decisions along the way or end up with an unfinished, clunky money pit on their hands. Our session will focus on the key areas where appreneurs need to take special care when creating their app.”
Just in case there was any lingering doubt that the iPhone 5 was just around the corner, take a careful look at the oddly timed sales and discounts on current models from retailers of all stripes. Best Buy, Target and Sprint are all offering rebates and sales that make the iPhone 4 an iPhone 4S look cheap and appealing…and Apple is matching their prices! But be careful: the fact that everyone seems to be in a rush to clear out their stockrooms is evidence that something new is on the way. Rumors have been swirling that September 12th will be the day that Apple announces the next iPhone and these sales may be the final proof that this is true.
Sometimes, you’ve just got to work from home. You do. There are days where getting out of the office and designing a landing page or programming an app from the comfort of your couch while only wearing your underwear is key to getting the whole thing done. We can’t say for sure how many of Rocksauce Studios’ greatest accomplishments were created by designers in the buff, but we’ll estimate about 15%. At least. But what really goes on when an employee works from home? Online Degrees has this helpful infographic:
Of course, there are plenty of tools available to help those who work from home avoid distractions. If those aren’t enough, you can always work via teleconferencing. But if you’re going to teleconference, you should teleconference in style. How about a completely mobile robot with an iPad for a face that will give remote workers full run of the office?
Outside of our amazing SXSW panel, this may be the most pressing issue of the day: which online community hacked Mountain Dew’s new soda naming contest? Reddit says 4chan did it. 4chan says Reddit did it. At one point, the winning name for the company’s new green apple flavored soda was “Diabeetus,” which was easily the least offensive of the entries. Although the contest page has been fixed, you can check out some screencaps here, but just know that they’re not necessarily safe for work. Childish, immature behavior or internet pranking at its best? We’d be lying it we said we weren’t suppressing giggles.
Elsewhere on the internet, it looks like a lot of people were tweeting about the Olympics.
