The Most Useful App Design Tool of 2012

And the most useful design tool for mobile app design in 2012 is… Skala Preview! We have avoided countless headaches and frustrations by using this tool and encourage every app designer to download it today! Simply put, as a Mobile App Designer and the Creative Director of Rocksauce Studios, we cannot work efficiently without it.

Skala Preview, created by the masterminds behind Bjango ,will send color accurate and pixel perfect image previews to any iOS device. The image is identical to how the final app or website will look on the device. Sounds too good to be true doesn’t it?

Before we learned about Skala, we were doing things the “old-fashioned way.” Once we saved the file, we had to email ourselves the file and open it on our mobile devices. The trouble with that method was, well, everything. If we wanted to zoom in, the image would become blurry. The color and pixels were never as accurate as they could have been. Additionally, if we wanted to preview a quick edit, we would have to repeat the process over again. Sounds frustrating, doesn’t it?

Skala Preview changed the flow of our work immediately. It flawlessly sends our color accurate image previews to any iOS device and they’re are pixel perfect. Colors are identical to how the final app or website will look on the device. If you’re using a tool like Photoshop or Illustrator (which we do every day and all day), Skala allows you to preview your screen as you edit with no need to save. By far it has been the fastest way our team has been able to preview a design mock-up on any iOS device. Additionally, we’re able to view the preview on multiple devices, which is helpful when we’re looking for team feedback.
